My name is Tariq Umedaly Spence, and I am sophomore in the graphic design department of VCUQ. I was born in New York, moved to Florida, then to England, California, Oregon and am currently enjoying my stay here in Qatar where I have been for nearly two years. I have never seen such hospitality within a country, and I have truly fallen in love with this country. I am deeply enjoying my time here in this school, and am finding out just what I am capable of producing. Thanks to our spectacular team of teachers, I feel I am being pushed far out of my comfort zone, and learn a new skill everyday. I enjoy an excess of homework, and look forward to class time critiques with our finished products. As regards to my out of school of life, I have none to speak of, other than karate with our professor Byrad and of course my guitar and my skateboard. I always believe that if you enjoy what you do, than the term work is irrelevant.

Hissa Zainal
My name is Hissa Zainal, and I am a Qatari citizen. I was born and raised in Doha, Qatar, where I have finished my scientific high school diploma. I am now attending VCU-Qatar where I am enrolled as a senior in Fashion Design. Choosing to major in Fashion Design was quite a challenge for me, as the demand for designers here in Doha is scarce. I am a determined individual with many aspirations, and I do not give up easily. I am an engaging member in our fashion department.
Unfortunately, fashion industry in Qatar lacks job opportunities and the Qatari face several difficulties in travelling and working abroad. I feel as an individual I would like to make things better for them after I graduate, since I am facing this problem as well. I would like to start several small projects that can help provide the Qatari women a chance to work in the design field they desire. This would also give women a voice to express who they are as individuals in our society.
