My name is Al Hussein Wanas, I’m a senior graphic design student at VCU Qatar. I’ve been living in Qatar since I was seven. During my time, I’ve volunteered in the Asian Games of 2006, Reach Out To Asia in Cambodia, and the Tribeca Film Festival in Doha. I’ve also created a series of Public Service Announcements targeted at speeding and bad driving habits in the gulf region. Along with my colleagues, I’ve worked on designing the book cover for “Gathering the Tide: An Anthology of Contemporary Arabian Gulf Poetry”. My strength lies in conceptualization, analysis, and formulating a design process. I’m flexible when it comes to visualizing, and using any medium that will communicate the idea efficiently. I like to collaborate with ambitious, and self-motivated individuals with non-material values. I love storytelling, whether it’s through animation, film, or illustration, and it is something I value as a visual communicator.

I am a junior at VCUQatar, majoring in Fashion Design and studying Art History as a minor. Before studying at VCUQatar, I worked in the accounting and audit field and also studied business administration at CNAQ in Qatar. Long before that, I studied chemistry for my master’s degree at the National University of Singapore and worked as a research assistant there. In addition, I worked as a teacher in Thailand and in Korea. I have been participating in some extracurricular activities, such as a musical, “The Wicked”, and Doha Debate. Also, I submitted my designs for a trophy and a logo competition. I won the first prizes from both a trophy competition held by Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club in 2009, and the annual fashion show in 2010 by VCUQatar. My strengths are often being able to prioritize the work with efficient time management under pressure, while my weaknesses can be sometimes taking a long time to make decisions and being too focused.
