Disruptive Pattern Material: Costumes
Surface Research, VCUQatar

Where do you live? What does it look like? Could you wear your surroundings on your body? In this project, students were asked to find a site in their local environment and design a costume that used its most essential physical, textural and emotional aspects in a fashion-oriented way.
Students began to see their local environment as a resource for a diverse range of design opportunities, and enjoyed the project’s performative aspect by dressing up and shooting portraits in a public space. At once surprising and playful, this project embodies a high degree of adventure and personal expression.
